Now No. 2 on the waiting list

3 weeks after the waiting lists were announced we have gone from No. 10 to No.2 for the preferred Catholic Secondary school of our choice. We know we are not home and dry but would appreciate hearing thoughts on the chances of getting in prior to start of term in just over 5 months time.

240 places were awarded in line with the admissions criteria

Do you think it is possible that a few of the 240 placed have found alternative preferred schools but simply not bothered to inform the school of this decision?

Does the school or local authority ring all of the 240 placed families to confirm their intentions to attend so that they either remain or free up places?

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice

Kind Regards

You would be surprised at the number that accept a place, but although they have accepted another LA/private etc fail to let the original offer go - cue beginning of yr7 and students who are on the register fail to appear. There is still hope Grin

Agreed Cricket balls, if we remain at No 2 for the next 5 months we will buy both uniforms in anticipation of the no shows but we are optimistic it will not come to that but who knows

My DD went from 11th on the waiting list to being offered a place within two days. Oversubscribed Faith school with best results in the city. There is movement every year to the independent sector. Some movement as people decide they want a different school on their list afterall. Shuffling is still happening. Our LA were chasing non responders this week.

Appeal paperwork deadline is tomorrow for our Local Authority. That's the other option. The Head of our chosen school encouraged me to appeal. Best of luck.

DS1 was offered a place in May from being 27th on the waiting list. (240 intake). We were three days off appeal.

School did their own admissions though, and automatically included everyone on the list who had listed it as one of their preferences. I was aware of DS1s place being offered around a week before it reached us.
