Kingsdale waiting lists - any experience

Has anyone got into Kingsdale Foundation School from the waiting list? We won't know what position our child is in until next week and I'm preparing for the worst (536th/723rd - it is very oversubscribed Sad) but I wondered if anyone else's child had got in from the list and how fast/slow it had moved for you.

Thanks

When I spoke to the admission office, they said it will be after the school holidays when any updates will be communicated.

maz99 · 22/03/2016 13:24

Got a letter today offering a place...!

newname12 · 22/03/2016 13:32

I forgot to add, the letter also said that 2,250 applied to the school, so if they allocate an equal number from each band then that would mean each waiting list contains 630 children

No, because it won't have been first choice for many of those people who applied. So a significant % will have places at other schools listed higher in their preferences.

Congratulations maz99 ! did your DS or DD also get a scholarship for anything (If you don't mind me asking !)

maz99 · 22/03/2016 13:51

My DD has a half sports scholarship... no mention was made of it on the letter though.

newname12 · 22/03/2016 14:11

Congratulations Maz!

Oh and to those asking- the school does a "banding" test themselves in the december and band from there. All schools who operate a banding policy do this. Although we went to a "banding" test for a lewisham school, which had no banding selection, purely distance, which I found suspicious Hmm (Lewisham removed it's banding selection this year in favour of distance only).

From what I can gather the "scholarships" at KD are ranked too. On Dc's letter it said something about the maximum scholarship so we were all but guaranteed a place.

BoboEK · 22/03/2016 14:19

Sorry newname12, do you mean that KD will do a banding test this DEC after they start or they did do one last DEC ? my DS did not attend any banding tests at KD and his lewisham school did not do any tests ? (So how does KD know what band to put him in ?)

clux73 · 22/03/2016 14:25

My DD and everyone else in her class sat a banding test at Kingsdale in December

newname12 · 22/03/2016 14:29

Yep there were banding tests in december 2015 for sept 2016 KD entry.

Lewisham schools don't need to do banding tests any more as they no longer select by band. Which is why I was surprised when Haberdasher Askes did. I did hear some parents talking about their "selection tests" at open day and was confused, but who knows.

maz99 · 22/03/2016 16:43

Thanks newname12...

My DD also sat the banding test in December - was on the waiting list for her band and also on the scholarship waiting list.

From what I understood of Kingsdale's oversubscription policy, it seems that those on the scholarship waiting list get offered a place before those on the band waiting lists

maz99 · 22/03/2016 16:44

Thanks BoboEK... is your DC going to Kingsdale as well...?

BoboEK · 22/03/2016 21:37

Yes maz99 have accepted and looking at travel options and dry runs during the summer !

RJsMa · 23/03/2016 16:54

Maz99 are you able to say which number and band you were on the waiting list? I'm late 40s as of a week ago and went to the appeals meeting yesterday which I'm hoping to avoid if possible.

maz99 · 23/03/2016 21:06

RJsMa, my DD's position was in the low 30s on both the scholarship & band waiting lists. Personally, I think she got her place from the scholarship waiting list (not that the letter mentioned it) because the oversubscription criteria has it listed higher than the siblings & band - which is why I had her take the scholarship assessment.

RJsMa · 23/03/2016 22:16

Thank you Maz99 I'd agree as I found out today we've only moved 3 places. Congrats on your offer.

maz99 · 23/03/2016 22:48

Thanks RJsMa... wishing you the best.

RJsMa · 12/04/2016 07:16

Is it to early to call and check Confused

BoboEK · 12/04/2016 10:28

Well it's after easter so lists are starting to move now, so there is no harm in calling and asking besides the admin team are really helpful and it does show that you are very keen !

NynaevesSister · 12/04/2016 12:23

Several of our friends were all offered places off the waiting lists in March. They all either had a full bursary (but didn't get a place) or a half bursary.

RJsMa · 12/04/2016 15:22

We moved I place in band 2. Still in the 40's I'm anxious all over again.

BoboEK · 15/07/2016 11:06

Just a bump, we have released our place so the list should move up 1 place (contact the school directly to find out your location on the list).

CrepeDeChineWag · 14/09/2016 11:55

Just bumping this thread out of curiosity. Did anyone on the waiting list get a place after they last posted? I've just been for an open morning. Great school.

BoboEK · 14/09/2016 12:47

I am not sure to be honest other than the place that we gave up.

maz99 · 14/09/2016 14:02

@CrepeDeChineWag, my DC got a place from the scholarship waiting list.

Check out the school's 2017 over-subscription admission policy, because during this year's admissions children on the scholarship waiting list were the first to be offered a place.

So my advice to you would be to get your DC to try out for either the sports or music scholarship, or even both.

I know that the sports scholarship is an 'open' scholarship and I think the music one is too - meaning that children do not have to be a certain grade to be able to try out for the scholarship.

maz99 · 14/09/2016 14:07

@BoboEK, what school did your DC end up going to ?
