Dilemma. My DS has a 10+ place at CLSB but is not sure..

My DS has just been accepted at CLSB at the 10+. He is now thinking that he wants to spend his final year at state primary but is not keen on doing the whole 11+ piece again. (Cake, eat). I think we are very fortunate to have the place but wondered if anyone else faced a similar dilemma? Bit of a silly problem but would love views.

It's not surprising that your ds is holding onto what's familiar as going to 'big' school is a pretty scary thought when you're only just 10

My eldest took up a 10+ place (different school) and had a ball - he was very tired by the end of the first term but quickly got into his stride after that

My other two have both done Y6 in their primary (one state, one private) and IME Y6 is the worst year. A lot of children have started to outgrow primary by then, some are hormonal preteens while others are still little children and there are often friendship issues during the year

If any of his friends are doing 11+ the atmosphere around the exams can get very tense and the results can cause more friction if a child's best friend gets a scholarship and they just get wait listed for instance

And in state primaries you have all the SATS preparation so there's very little that's new being covered in class

I'd definitely try to persuade him to take the place (unless fees are an issue)

You do NOT want to go through 11+ in a year's time, after this. Take the place. As someone who was in the associated prep of a bigger school, it's great to be in the "early" cohort, so when the year 7s arrive, he'll already have found his feet.

I'm new to mumsnet forums although I've read the posts in the past. I cannot thank you enough for the advice. Sound, concise and to the point. We will go for the place. This helps enormously. Thank you!!

I know that it's been a long time. How was your experience after accepting 10+ place at CLSB.
We are in a similar situation so any guidance will be helpful.
