Good second instrument for music scholarship?

DD is in year 4, and has just passed Grade 4 violin. We're starting to think of applying for a music scholarship for secondary, and they all require a second instrument. Any recommendations on what would be a good one to add - I was thinking of something which has more rarity value, as the violin is so popular. Any opinions on clarinet/oboe/viola etc?

Re the pipe organ, at DS school all organists have entered the school with grade 5 or 6 piano. Then they learn organ at school. It would be unusual to learn organ without any keyboard previous studies. ..

I learnt the organ without piano. I ended up on a scholarship from Australia at the Royal Academy in London. The organ is a vastly different beast from the piano. But I'd say any keyboard would be helpful as a second instrument.

Now if you wanted to go for a third....Wink

My child does piano and flute and i find them both amazing but she finds the woodwind instruments hard because of breathing. I recommend percussions, brass or piano.
