Secondary School Governors - Any Here?

I have recently had a meeting with the school Governors, which didn't result in a favourable outcome for my DD. I didn't feel they acted impartially but very much in favour of protecting the school. There was quite a bit of academic muscle present and although I was able to bring someone along with me, I felt very disadvantaged.

Am I able to see a copy of the minutes of that meeting and the reports that were submitted by the teachers/department involved?

It’s rather difficult without knowing the full story and, inevitably, there will be two sides to a dispute.

The Governors duty, in a dispute, is not necessarily to take a fair view (or to act impartially) but to ensure that the correct procedures have been followed.

So, if :-
a) you feel the school has been unfair
b) and the correct procedures have been followed
Then, I’m afraid you will end up being disappointed.

Oops posted too soon. Have you involved an organisation like parent partnership who often can help on your rights?

Am former Clerk (primary schools) - not many governors would have experience of this type of situation OP.
IMO You should be able to see the minutes and supporting material regarding your child. But these minutes will be confidential as usually anything involving a named child (or named member of staff) is regarded as a confidential minute. So what you may receive is an edited version with names (of staff and pupils) removed. Minutes may also not be released until they have been approved (usually by Head and Chair of governors). These minutes would go in a separate file and not be released to the general public.
My understanding is that usually parents can appeal any decision made and that this will be heard by a different panel of governors.

Are we talking about an exclusion appeal here or are we talking about something else like a concern that you have about the school.
Without being somewhat more specific I am not sure how to advice. If you want to PM me then that is fine and I will as a governor try to suggest what is appropriate in the circumstances.
