Late application for London day school for 14+

DD boards and for a variety of reasons wants to be at home for gcse. She's bright (possibly v bright) and loves drama. Enjoys sport but more a joiner in than squad player.
Registered for LEH. G&L won't take an application as so many on wait list. Latymer upper deadline closed too for 2015.
Any ideas?

Whereabouts do you live? Have you tried the GDST schools? Putney, Wimbledon, Notting Hill and Ealing?

Agree about GDST schools. Again depending on where you live, Kingston Grammar, Emanual, or Ibstock. You might have a better chance with the last. Of try some of the more central girls schools. Francis Holland or Queensgate. Or St Benedicts if you are Ealing way. Or Surbiton High which is large so a better chance of a place. Or Dulwich Schools (JAGs, Alleyns) if you are on one of the coach routes. Harrodian?

Use TfLs journey planner to work out which are doable.

It will depend on which school has some one leaving so worth spreading the initial net wide.

Some of these schools will be more academic than others, but all should be capable of doing well by a bright child.

City?

West london/surrey borders. Will look at GDST schools. Tks.
Don't know any of the others.
DD is keen to go somewhere academically challenging as gets frustrated by pace at her current school.
Mixed would work I think too.
Which of the others are stretchy.
Will check out tube lines and buses.
Dulwich too far though.
Not sure re central schools.
She's keen to have local friends so would be ideal if enough for school bus or a regular cohort on tube.

Sorry. By City did you mean City of London school? Hadn't thought of that one either.

Buses from alleyns etc don't come this far west, sadly.

If you're west London/Surrey borders City would be an insane commute as would most of the central London or North-west London schools. Your dd will have a lot more homework etc in the run-up to GCSEs and if she has to cope with an hour-plus commute each way every day the benefits of being stretched will wear off pretty quickly... LEH would be good - my niece just got a 14+ place so it does happen. Wimbledon and Putney high both more academic than Surbiton. Of the mixed schools I'd go for Kingston over Ibstock, Emanuel or Harrodian.

If she really wants to be stretched have you thought about state schools? Ds2 is in extension at Graveney and his classmates are frighteningly bright and it would be a similar picture at the sutton grammars and Tiffin. They all have occasional places so worth getting in touch with the schools to see

Thanks for that BB. I do sorry about the commute and DD is not used to it so think it would be a huge shock and time absorber. Have registered for LEH. Had ruled out tiffin as never thought there might be spots. Will call Monday.
Can't see her at Putney and WHS is another long commute. Will call kingston also.
Needs to be a good move orkghtcas well stay put so needs academic stretch and larger school but without such a long commute that negatives out way positives.

good luck! the other option would be to stay put for now and move for sixth form when a lot of other pupils would be making a change as well

Would mean we could have best chance of getting the right fit with the new school.
No point in jumping to one that's wrong as current one is ok. Just not for her.
DD not keen. She thought about it last year too but wasn't sure - shame as 13+ much easier as lots move then too.
DDs view is moving at 6th form is diff academically - new teachers, new everything just when results really matter, UCAS etc - and you don't get chosen for any house or school roles as they stick to the pupils they know!
