I just went to the open night. The head is impressive, but they're very traditional and the facilities (as described - not in place yet) are probably not competitive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks happywetherbydad. Can you keep us updated on any news re the senior school ?Anyone else got info on the numbers that applied & where they are coming from? How difficult to get in? Were many turned down?

happywetherbydad · 05/06/2015 17:41

The boys who sat the exam were from the usual West London prep schools. They were oversubscribed by a lot with applications. I think it was around 250 boys sat the exam for around 50 spots. Check the prep school leavers for 2014 and this year if they are up. I am pretty by exit of the first class at 18 you can replace Eton, Harrow, St. Pauls, etc with Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial etc.

Bump. Has anybody's DS received an offer from the school? Was it difficult to get an offer or was it a fall back? Did anybody choose it over Latymer Upper? It's closer to us that Latymer Upper.

GD77 · 19/06/2015 22:03

Has anyone taken (or know of anyone taking) up a place for Y9. Is it by choice or were there no other firm offers?

GD77 · 19/06/2015 22:14

Just read Happywetherdad's comment re choosing Wetherby as a 'new school'. This is great - whetherby senior will be an excellent school and very exclusive. There's so much speculation because there's not been that much info. released. It would be a good idea for them to create a YouTube filming of setting up a new school - a bit like the 'Very British School' and Harrow series. Mr NB - if you're listening in - what do you think?

pupilirl123 · 20/07/2015 18:58

i think it is worth noting to all parents, i hope to remain anomalous that if you are entering your child to continue with wetherby prep. In my personal history i have spent a rather long time at that school i will remark that it is outstandingly academic, the school shows the students very little to none respect. The experience was extremely unenjoyable. I have experienced several different schools yet none made me feel as worthless as wetherby. the teachers take favourites kids constantly make fun of physical and mental disadvantages (eg: fatness, sporting ability and ugliness). Your son maybe has not known anything else but please talk to them. I was subject to abuse for years. Your son might even be a bully. I do admit this a personal opinion and should be treated like one. if the teachers payed more attention or cared more i can imagine several boys be expelled. My friends( also subject to constant bulling) felt the same way.

This is meant to be something to think about, and hopefully you do, bit if you wish to take any action of any kind please refrain from mentioning this short article. good luck!

pupilirl

is this post for real?

I should really appreciate if anyone can give recent experience of Wetherby Prep, WCCS and Westminster Under. How doe they compare? is there a significant difference in academic standards ?

nightswimming1 · 28/02/2017 14:31

Can I suggest starting a new thread in Primary Education ?

Arcadiaadvisory17 · 28/02/2017 16:53

Does anyone have any thoughts on the difference between academic standards of WCCS, Wetherby Prep and Westminster Under ?

Michaelahpurple · 28/02/2017 22:26

Wide range of academic standards. If at all useful, the average CAT score at WUS across the school last year was around 133. Not sure how wccs and wetherby stack up against each other as wetherby has been changing steadily over recent years but both not as high as WUS. (Which isn't i. Itself a bad thing of course - it's horses for courses)

You will probably get much more commentary if you report under its own title though.

JamDonutsRule · 01/03/2017 02:16

Michela
Interesting that the average CAT at WU was 133. Where do you think the pupils at the lower end are, CAT score wise? For intake do they have a sharp cutoff at the bottom?

JamDonutsRule · 01/03/2017 02:17

Michaelahpurple sorry for spelling your name incorrectly!!

Michaelahpurple · 01/03/2017 23:42

Not really sure. I know there are quite a few boys with full marks around the place. A former head said that they look at 7/8 at 125 as the target floor, if that helps at all

JamDonutsRule · 02/03/2017 00:06

Oh, that's very interesting.

I heard similar (125) for St Paul's at 13+ and 126 (in 2016) for Harrow but with sports / music at almost scholarship level.
