Anyone have any experience/knowledge of either of these two schools or other local secondary schools?

King Alfreds Wantage generally considered good school. Last year those who didn't get in on first application and then appealed were successful.

DH and I went to KA's Open Evening last week and weren't overly impressed - or I should say really we were quite underwhelmed.

The good points seemed to be that the East Site is exclusively for years 7 & 8 so it's not such a big transition from small Primary to a large Secondary campus and the equipment seemed new (IT, sports, music etc).

They have just permanently appointed a new Head and the results seem consistently good.

We are father east so we are just out of catchment

Dizzyday - can I ask why you were underwhelmed? By the teachers/ facilities/ overall feel? What other schools are recommended in this area?

TeaBag - I am not sure really Confused. I can only compare it to when looking at a house that's for sale. There was no "wow" factor although it would be an ok place to live (does that make sense?)

If it was the only choice then I wouldn't have any qualms, but I don't think I am going to be elbowing people out of the way to the front of the queue to apply.

But I felt the same was after visiting Didcot Girls School this week so maybe it's my expectations that are out of kilter!
