what sorts of things should be included in the application letter?

we thought academic record, 100% attendance, involvement in house sports/activities, responsibilities held in school..

anything else in particular?

Be careful with the 100% attendance so as not to discriminate against those with disabilities or medical issues

Pointlessfan · 15/09/2014 13:38

Why they want to do it/think they would be good at it?

gymboywalton · 15/09/2014 13:46

Ah! Thought you were a teacher asking what the criteria should be!

Good luck to your son!

Ability to be persuasive to get his peers to join in with things, show he is reliable, demonstrate how well he gets on with other people, show how he has leadership potential and that he is liked and respected by his peers and teachers. This is usually a leadership role and not necessarily a "look at how good I am" role.

Let them write it themselves, for goodness sake

gymboywalton · 15/09/2014 16:19

Did I say anywhere that he wouldn't be writing it himself?Hmm

Thank you milly

Get him to think about

  • what does a House Captain actually have to do?
  • what qualities are required to meet those requirements?
  • how can he show he has those qualities?
YakInAMac · 15/09/2014 19:54

He will write it himself ...based on his mother's advice...from a wide range of people on the internet?

Seriously - get him to think it out for himself!

Tell him to ask himself what he would look for in a captain if he was the school, and then write about how he fulfils that criteria.
