Just had a text from year 8 ds.....

"I've got my report"

Nothing else. No emoticons, kisses or other embellishments. And he is usually an elaborate and effusive (ie unboylike) texter.

I have no reason to belive it won't be perfectly fine, but, truthfully, would that make your heart sink?

Well, it wouldn't worry me if it was my son - at least, a factual brief text from him wouldn't worry me, because he is a master of economy where texting or emailing is concerned. Also, it it came from school, I'd know he was doing it surreptitiously hoping not to be caught since in school texting is banned.

I'm always worried about my DS's reports though because they aren't always glad tidings of great joy (although the last one was good).

If it was either of my DD's a leading comment like that, whether said or texted, would likely be the prelude to good news - they'd know I would react in manner of Pvt Frazer ('we're DOOOOOOOOMED') and then they would be able to say 'AHA! No. Regard then, my fabulous report'. If it was bad they wouldn't trail it and leave me to stew. And they'd get their excuses in first.

So in conclusion - I'd worry but it would likely be fine. But if your DS is normally more chatty and the text reads oddly then maybe something is up (but it might not be related to his report, he might be in a hurry or pissed off about something entirely different - his teachers next year or something like that).

So maybe "my report is good but they've found my hidden skateboard so I've been expelled"?

You will have to tell us whether it was good news or bad news! Or just an epic texting fail (as the young people say).

It is probably sealed in an envelope to give to you and they have been told not to open them. Hope it was ok anyway!

He's probably not opened it.

If he had and it was pants it is likely to be floating down the nearest stream.

All I get is "@home" to let me know when he's back (I work afternoons.. He is 15)

And he can't even write ok.. I get "k" !!
