A corner turned, appeal lost today - any advice?

We lost our secondary school appeal today - not unexpected as our grounds were weak but we presented as best we could. Before I hit the wine bottle to commiserate, can anyone offer any advice on our next move?
We are pretty sure that our child will now attend our catchment school. Which is sadly really under performing and had a warning letter from the Sec of State last Nov. How can we get the best education out of this school for our bright biddable child ? At what point will the SLT/HT be changed ?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you tt helpful words as usual. Yes, it patently needs a change of HT/SLT. How best can I keep tabs on the current position, the school themselves are not terribly forthcoming?

Is it worth me becoming a Govener? My DP was one for the primary, but not sure what is involved at secondary level?

We will stay on the waiting lists for all of our 3 (refused) choices of schools.
