Chichester High School for Boys

Hi, we are thinking of moving to Chichester. My DS is due to start secondary school in September and I am concerned that if I don't get a place in Bishop Luffa he will get Chichester high school for boys as it got a satisfactory ofsted.
But when I looked on the school's website I was very impressed with the gcse results 81% A-Cs, some of the schools near me classed by ofsted as outstanding only get around 68%,

Are there any parents on here that can tell me what their experiences of the school are please.?

Does the 81 % include English and Maths as it will be higher if not

I know of a couple of parents whose sons have just come out with a really good set of GCSEs (lots of As featured in paper etc) there seems to have been a turnaround recently with both the boys and the girl's school - their (not confirmed) stats from 12/13 year prove this. Not sure why this is-- a lot of changes have happened recently most schools in the area have been changed to Academies ( some of them felt it was forced upon them due to lack of funding) There's also extra competition due to Chichester Free School. I will mention that a friend also had a problem with bullying a couple of years ago and a very prevalent "lad" culture hopefully this is now changing.

I am looking at the girl's school and out of catchment and slightly befuddled by the leap in stats for this year. Hope it does not mean that they chuck students off GCSE courses if they do not do well enough. really hope it s just a simple success and improvement story

The A-Cs were still in the 70s for maths & english but it is a concern that they chuck students off courses. I went to a school myself where they did that for their stats.
Also worried about the lad culture I will go & visit duringschool hours I think.

Will you look at Chichester Free school too? My concern was that it is an experiment!

am not saying they necessarily do that it could be early GCSE entries, a really good cohort anything don't know enough about the ins and out of how schools do these things am afraid. The free school would probably be a bit far for DD to travel as we are on Hampshire edge and tbh just wanted something completely different for DD to consider...if she likes the all girl environment we will apply. Have heard they do lots of joint classes anyway. My Dsis is a Social Worker in W Sussex and often places in the girls school says the pastoral care is excellent so maybe boys school has got better
