Schools for DS in Bath

We are shortly to be looking for a state secondary school in Bath for our DS. Thinking possibly of Beechen Cliff, does anyone have any experience of it? Am unsure about a single sex school and one that is very strong on team sports. Possibly also Oldfield now it takes boys, Ralph Allen although we are in the centre so would mean a bus ride and not sure if we'd get in. Or St Gregory's (ditto)

Many thanks

Which year group are you applying for ?

BC and RA are both oversubscribed but if you're central, you'll probably be ok. St Gregs is Catholic - is your son baptised?

Hi no we're not catholic. We are actually thinking ahead so it would be to start there, the first year (Year 7?)

Is it a good thing them to be in the centre, for catchments? I wasn't sure if we might have to move... we are not looking for this year, just starting thinking about it now. Thanks for your replies!

Have a look on BANES website - they have distances for previous years' offers plus admissions criteria.

You're best bet is to actually visit all the schools you'd consider. I doubt you'd need to move! Even if your nearest secondary isn't the one you think would be best for your son there will be alternatives - Bath is pretty well served imo.
