Transport to Royal Latin School

Now the Freemantle Free School has opened in Winslow, 2014 entry children are being denied free transport to the Royal Latin School in Buckingham because Bucks CC says the Freemantle is the nearest school and parents will have to pay for transport to the Grammar school in Buckingham. Has anyone heard if this policy is being reconsidered by Bucks because it is selection by parental income? The Royal Latin school should be available with free transport to all from its catchment area who qualify to go there. How many Grammar school children will realistically want the Freemantle School instead? Any views?

Doesn't apply to us as we're out of county, but I remember thinking the new school in Winslow was going to cause problems for that very reason, having read that there were similar arguments against the proposed new faith school in Stoke Poges. In any case, under the new transport rules grammar school pupils whose nearest school is an upper wouldn't be entitled to free transport because it is deemed to "meet their educational requirements" or whatever wording the council uses...despite the stated rationale behind testing being "to find the school that best meets your child's needs." If that's the case, why go to all the trouble and massive expense of running a selection test at all? Hmm
