Anyone else waiting for Kent 11+ results today?

KCC are serving a cruel and unusual punishment on those of us who have got into this awful system by making us wait until 4pm and then not even giving us the ruddy scores.

I've got Y7 applications coming up a year from now for DD and it's very competitive and hair raising here in Paris too.

I'm not sure when this happened to the education system but from what you are saying Bonsoir, it's obviously all over not just here! DH went to one of the top schools in Kent. He barely remembers taking the 11+!

Why they drag out the process for so long I can't understand. The schools have had the results for about three weeks and the appeals process was done and dusted in a week so why a two further weeks for the parents and children to wait and then why wait until the end of the day to give only part (pass or fail but no score) of the result?!
Not to mention the schools allocation not being until march and then with the appeals system being so slow after that one girl who lives near me didn't get a school place until July (starting in Sept). The whole system needs a radical overhaul.
Oh and while I'm at it, sort the friggin test out Kent (although this is allegedly happening) how about introducing a proper literacy element and most importantly input from the school about the child.

Hi Clarisse...here too...plus the HT is away this week so goodness knows when we get our scores.

Have asked school if they have someone else nominated to dispense this info.

I'm not expecting a pass particularly so if he does, it's a bonus! But I do want to know how near he got iyswim. He tried very hard.

In 1977 my day the test took place in January and the school allocation was received during the Easter holidays.

We have parents evening today, and it sounds as if we will get the scores then. Not sure I want to read them in front of ds's form teacher (who I've only met twice).

Oh blimey no. Every reaction judged Ladymuck, that would be awful. Secretly of course I would love dd to get a superselective score so that all options are open to her. In reality of course, that is very unlikely to happen but I wouldn't want to be judged for not being thrilled with a pass. Of course, if she's failed then there would be tears all round and that would be awful too!
Oh and I'm a teacher. I KNOW we judge Grin

With the 11+ results a couple of weeks ago the scores were given.

MissStrawberry - because the alternative schools aren't great in some areas, so it's the only way to get in the school you want...

Not doing it this year, but in Kent and know a lot of harrassed parents this week (who are all trying very hard to act like it doesn't matter to their DCs). Good luck!

(Oh, I know a few people who grew up round here who say they don't remember taking it but must have done as they went to the grammer schools, I think they used to make much less of a big deal out of it in some schools so it would seem to just be another class test.)

We got the results from our first preference GS (not Kent, obviously) on Monday. They came out just after 5pm. One of the longer days I've had to live through. Luckily DD2 was in the definitely in category so that was a relief. Good luck to all the Kent people today (and anywhere else getting results)

We get results today, Friday and next Tuesday. And I maybe suffering from PMT as well. Just be glad you don't know me in real life...

We're waiting here too, although we've already had DS's results for our local borough last week, plus another selective school. Luckily DS has passed the two we've had so far, so I can be quite relaxed about the Kent ones. I certainly wasn't relaxed for the local one last week! Good luck, and hope you get the right result for your DC.

Did you DD sit St Os , how did he go?

Yes, we're waiting on those two. The transport links to St Os don't work for us, so we're not in the mix for that one.

Miss Strawberry - I'm sure the answer is obvious but it is because the nearest two school to us are utterly dire. My dd is academically able and I want her to be challenged and learning in an environment where academic success is celebrated. My bright dh went to the local crap comp (before going to grammar) where he was picked on for being clever! Clearly I want the best for my dd and if it means towing the line with this ridiculous system then so be it.

I should say, I hate the system too - but where we live, it's either take the test or resign yourself to one of the following:

  1. Academy which is flooded with funding and facilities but produces the kind of children who jaywalk merrily home with their fingers up to passing motorists and I think ds would be torn to pieces there
  1. religious school with dilapidated facilities and strange ideas thatwon't take us anyway without up to date baptism/communion certificates
  1. other religious school where bullying is RIFE
  1. school in special measures BUT you get a free ipad
  1. Other school in special measures without the free ipad

So we decided to give it a go, as it were...without the funding for private education that's kind of the only option.

And I have no illusions about Ds being academic. He's not. But he is nice and I want him to be Ok...that's all I have to say about it really.

Any school will do as long as it is humane.
