Can someone help me with school trousers please

Dd is just starting high school

5ft 4 size 8

If I look in school ranges I'm having to get aged 14 for length but they absolutely hang off her waist

Don't really want to pay adult prices for school trousers -any suggestion?

Dress code is tailored trousers or skirts longer than knee length -so trousers it is!

next used to cut fairly slim, but don't know if they go that slim.

DD is 12, 5 ft 6, wears these ones in a size 13-14 - they are just the right length on her and are stretchy - darts in the waistband might work for your DD if you buy the 12-13.

I've had those stretchy M&S ones in the past for dd & taken a tuck in either side of the waistband. I didn't think they wore that well though, she got 'pulls' in the fabric very quickly (having said that she was at primary and hard on trousers so maybe secondary is a bit different).

I get DDs trousers from the ladies section in Matalan they do three lengths in them (she's short legged)

Takver I wouldn't consider them for DD2 as she's a complete tearaway and still at primary, but for secondary wear they rock. By that age girls don't tend to do many running type games at break (DD1 does netball and basketball training but wears PE kit for this). Hers are immaculate after 3 months (though the length is now spot on because she has grown, she will need the 14-15 size soon. Sigh) The high cotton content is worth it for me.

Yes, I suspect the games of hide-and-seek involving the willow arbour and crawling under the various bits of playground furniture may not have helped

My dd is the same, we have a local skoolkit shop and they do skirts with a variety of waistbands and lengths. Just found two which have a 24" waist and 22" length. They do come smaller and longer

Sorry, they also do trousers in longer lengths and smaller waistbands. So excited I got her skirts just had to tell the world!

M & S now do slim fit trousers online. DD1 is (13) is 5'2" and a size 4/6 the age 12 ones fit her beautifully. I haven't seen them instore to try, but you can return M&S easily if they don't work for you. They were a revelation for her - she's NEVER had school trousers fit before. Of course, she's now about to start a school where they have to wear a skirt.

Next do slim fit in some designs and they should be long enough as they go up to age 16.

Standard next trousers fit my pretty slender DD2, but she isn't that tall.

Thank you jennycoast! I've been hunting for girls trousers with pockets for dd, and those are not only slim fit but have pockets too :)

Try Next they do trousers in regular and slim fit.

I bought the slim fit from m&s for ds2 who starts secondary in September too, but they were still miles too big for him. The next ones in age 11 (and he is average height, just skinny) fitted just right and are true to the size chart. You can have them delivered to your nearest Next store free. (And no I don't work for Next)

DD2 wears the Next slim fit as she is a skinny thing, they are perfect and a nice length too.

Are there still schools which demand skirts only for girls? Is it a private school by any chance?
