substitute catholic education by attending chatechism or something like that?

Planning for the future ( DS now 4 and has been admitted by distant catholic primary school). If in the future I want to try to get my DS to Cardinal Vaughn or Oratory but the admitssion criteari say entire primary eductaion in catholi school. If I resign of the catholic primary school because it is too far and cannot take him there as I am working - can I provide a substitute catholic education - like catechism on Sundays or something like that? not sure what is terminology for that? I would really appreciate your reply and sharing your knowledge as I need to make decision probably next week... thank you

there is a local catholic primary school BUT we did not get a place - we had it as a first preference. we have got offered a catholic school that is 2 miles in a busy London street, plus we are both working so practicalities to take him there are very slim...thinking to switch to local CoE school + attend catechism in order to fulfill criteria of catholic education? does it sound like a solution? Yes we go to Mass - does it need to be in the same church - as we go to 2 catholic churches, depending on the day ( Saturday evening or Sunday)

We tried that andwrotea long letter with all the things we do to continue a catholic education and our disease denied. We hit every other milestone for baptism, very active in church, regular Sunday and holy day attendance....stay in catholic school if you want a top catholic secondary but be sure to be really committed to the church to get all the points

OP you have asked this question on here at least twice in the last few days and got lots of helpful replies. Are you hoping for a different answer this time?

if the admissions criteria for the secondaries say catholic primary school then that is what they will apply. Over-subscribed schools cannot and will not bend admission criteria because by law they have to apply it as stated, and if they don't every other parent denied a place on the same basis can win on appeal. Which would leave a school with hundreds more puils than it can fit.

MN cannot answer this - only the schools concerned.

Also, things may change between now and secondary admissions time.

Stay on the waiting list for the school you really want, or make arrangements for the travel to the further school - before school CM who does drop offs, for example. Or find out if the school has a breakfast club and after school club.Or choose a school which is best for your child's education NOW. His education over the next 6 years is quite implortant, you know, beyond being a stepping stone for secondary. And you might change your mind about what you want for secondary over the next 6 years.

I have just looked at the admisssions criteria for both the schools you name and neither of them have admissions criteria that even mentions primary school attended.In fact I thought the school admissions code had prohibited feeder primaries as a criterion.

'Whether the candidate has attended the London Oratory Primary School or any other Catholic School for the whole of their primary education or the candidate?s parent(s) have fulfilled their obligation to ensure a Catholic education for their child. [6] '

"or the candidate?s parent(s) have fulfilled their obligation to ensure a Catholic education for their child."

You need to ask the school what that actually means and whether in their opinion the alternatives you suggest would be acceptable.

I would ask in an e mail and keep the reply for future use if they say your alaternative would be acceptable on an equal level with attending a catholic school.

They explain this at the open evening but I suspect it really is not enough
