We Need to tidy some utterly misleading opinion on here. Even though it’s an old thread.
So if your looking now and find this thread read on.
Firstly in terms of schools for the highest quality standard football. We talking ESFA or ESFA elite level.
Chosen one from each area if UK it your that passionate about it.
Whitgift (south Croydon / London). Boys public school.
Thomas Telford (Shropshire). Non fee paying school. But is selective.
Bolton School (lancs) boys and girls schools. Fee paying
Or look on the English schools FA website. (ESFA) for the results.
Hampton, Ardingly, and one or two of the others mentioned are not at this performance level consistently, and do not recruit to this degree either.
So if your son is good, I mean really good (approaching national caps at U13/U15 is not uncommon), this is where you need to be looking - ESFA.
Some of the top academies contribute or pay towards fees for boys. That’s how competitive it is.
If your son is a good club player - look elsewhere. These schools, and there will be others, are for the elite (at their age and we recognise this can of course change as they develop),
**Note the most competitive school football options will not generally allow ‘club’ or non academy weekend football anyway. All the ‘A teams’ will be signed to a professional top 2 division academy as well anyway..
Yes there are plenty of good football state schools too. Again look at ESFA and then do some research.
Do not listen to mums who have little knowledge apart from maybe their one DS who probably didn’t make it anyway.
Good luck.
