Anyone have any info on this school? I know it's very hard to get a place, but that's about it! Would be grateful for any thoughts

Hello,
My DD is on the language scholarship waitlist for Grey Coats School. We really want her to go to this school! Does anyone have any experience of their girls getting into Grey Coats of the language waitlist? Feeling super anxious. Thank you!

Someone I know got offerred a place after she have started at another school from the waiting list or perhaps it was just before school started but she was alerady committed fiinancially and happy to go to an independent school. Can't be sure of the exact timing sorry.

Jazzhonda · 09/03/2018 23:42

Where is she on the waiting list?

Hopeful18 · 10/03/2018 07:48

Thank you for your kind replies. My DD is number 3 on the list.

Jazzhonda · 10/03/2018 08:19

Then hang on in there. There's always a lot of movement at this stage of the process as parents decide whether to accept or reject offers. That movement also applies to waiting lists.
Is time of the essence? You could make clear to GCH that you wish to remain on the waiting list AND that you would definately accept an offer made at any time, even if
you're forced meanwhile to accept a place at another school ( you don't want DD to be without a school in September).

Jazzhonda · 10/03/2018 08:27

I should have added: I know someone whose was offered a place two days into the start of term. The parents accepted and took her out of her then school despite being hit with a terms' fees.

Thank you so much Jazz😊 You have been most helpful.

Hopeful18 · 10/03/2018 08:49

My DD is on 3 waiting lists but GCH is our favourite so yes making it clear that we will accept the offer if she is fortunate enough to be offered a place😊

Hopeful18 · 28/03/2018 18:46

Wow what a week! My DD got offered the GCH language place which we were over the moon with and then out of the blue Godolphin & Latymer has offered her a place too! What to do??? She set the 11+ and made the waiting list..,just never thought an actual place would come up.

Jazzhonda · 28/03/2018 19:53

Hi
Great news on GCH! Have you decided yet?

MartaHamm · 28/03/2018 22:14

I am jealous! GCH was our favourite school but we live too far and my daughter failed the language altitude test :( but I Know someone whose daughter got a language place and is loving it! Good luck whatever you decide but it is an amazing opportunity (and free!). We had a similar dilemma and decided for state (Catholic, but would have preferred GCH even though further, vs Putney - didn’t apply to g&l as daughter did not like it)

*Aptitude test!

baylisbaylis · 30/03/2018 20:01

For those that have been through the process already...
am I correct in thinking that the language aptitude test is basically a verbal reasoning test?

ExStudentOfGCH · 06/07/2018 14:06

Hi everyone on this thread,

I was an ex student of GCH from 2010-2015. If there is any questions you would like to ask about the school, I would be very happy to give you an unbiased answer.

Thank you,

ExStudentOfGCH

forevernotyoung · 06/07/2018 14:37

Hi exstudent, did you do the language aptitude test? What was it like?

ExStudentOfGCH · 06/07/2018 17:47

Hi there,

I remember doing the language aptitude test. However, I’m not sure if it was the one. The test was set in an exam hall, which all of the candidates was given a weird piece of paper that had the Martian language text. There was another piece of paper or text that had the Martian alphabet. The aim was to decipher the text and translate it to English. This was really bizarre. I got into the school because I was a local to the area.

nylon14 · 06/07/2018 21:24

From what I gathered from my daughter the test is pretty much the same. Its verbal reasoning.

forevernotyoung · 07/07/2018 10:15

Ok thanks. That's useful information.
