Bad food in school

Hello!

We are in a private secondary school and we have a problem with lunches there. Actually the food is bad. (To say nothing of the really unfriendly dining room staff). Not only my daughter, but many other girls say this. But until now we were OK, as we gave our daughter packed lunch and she didn't go to the dining room and ate her packed lunch in class, as several other girls did. (Even though we have to pay for the lunches £280 monthly, but we can manage this).

But now the girls were told they must go and eat the lunch in the dining room.
My daughter says the food there is just unbearable.

In the school they have a board where girls can stick complains and proposals and many girls wrote there about the low quality of food, but this all was ignored.

Do you think it is worth talking to the school, or it would not help and we only spoil relations with them?

I see no reason why you cannot bring this up for discussion.

Is it just badly cooked, or is it nutritionally crap as well? Are there any choices available?

You might also like to ask what happens to those suggestions/comments that appear on the board.

I would take your concerns to the school. At £280/month i think you and your daughter have a right to complain and the school should take these complaints on board.

Can you get the other girl's parents to back you up?

£280 per month for lunch? Really?

OK thanks, will talk to them. This is just my daughter is new, joined year 9 this year, and from all other points the school is absolutely brilliant, so wouldn't like destroy good relations...

Accentuate the positives and then say your only disappointment is the food.

Have you been into school to eat the lunch?

At my DD's school, a lot of girls whinged to their parents about lunches, who in turn complained (because they were compulsory). The school responded by asking parents to turn up any day (without notice) for lunch. The parents were surprised and impressed by the lunches, stopped complaining and spread the word.

Most schools publish weekly menus. Have you reviewed these together and discussed what they might choose.

From a different angle, one of my DSs wasn't having his paid-for lunch, and it turned out to have nothing to do with the food, but the queue.

Kathy420 your comments IMO are unnecessary and misplaced because if you had bothered to read the whole thread you would have noticed that the OP corrected herself and said the £280 was per term.

It's in the nature of children to moan about the school food, ours do, and I know that whilst not gourmet (hard to do that for canteen style serving nearly 300!) it's perfectly decent food. It's also easy for children to get caught up in the 'the food is bad brigade' as it's not cool to say the food is good!

Of course the OP may find that food is rubbish, but I personally would not believe in the first instance children, especially teenage girls!
