Summer activities for a 16-year-old?

DD will be finishing her GCSEs this summer and so will have an extra long summer holiday. She got pretty bored last summer - we live in a rural area and there wasn't a lot for her to do. Also she is shy, overthinks everything and finds it difficult to socialise with her peers - she is much happier talking to adults. So I suggested maybe she would like to do a summer course and she thinks that could be a good idea. I've no idea what might be available though so wondered if anyone could recommend something. She is totally non-sporty, quite musical (plays violin and guitar and writes songs), and very interested in politics/psychology/sociology. I was thinking something like an archeological dig or something I dunno. Any thoughts on where I could look?

I sound a bit like your daughter did at her age ...any possibility of a summer job ? Some good experience , a bit of cash and more likely to be with adults ? It also gave me a bit of a confidence boost that really helped when I started on my post GCSE education ?

Yes, I agree with what you say and she is going to look for a job, but there isn't a lot of work available locally

Sorry, pressed post too soon. That is my main aim for her - a confidence boost so she can go into sixth form not shrinking into the walls. She is an amazing, lovely, talented person, but she doesn't have a lot of self-belief.

what about something like this
My DS was the right age this summer, but it clashed with something else.

I don't know where in the country you are, but if you can be counted as any of the areas Challenge runs in, it is FAB. Apparently it is only set up in some areas of the Country though.
