GCSE - how many hours a week are spent on each subject

At a standard state school in Eng, Math, Triple Science, French, Latin (if studied), Hist/Geo and on average how much homework is given in each subject?

I know 1-1 home ed would possibly mean less hours needed but I'd like to know the maximum I'd need based on school hours.

Thanks!

It's not clear from the combination of your thread title and OP what you are asking. DO you want to know curriculum time, as your title suggests (generally about 5 hours a fortnight) or homework which you mention in your OP? THis will vary through the year, but most schools recommend a couple of hours per night at GCSE, spread out over all the subjects during the course of a week/fortnight.

I'm looking for the teaching time at Y10/11 for the subjects above and the homework time allocated. I assume there is more homework for core subjects?

I have 150 mins every week with my GCSE option groups (3 lessons x 50 minutes)

English - 3 hours a week in year 10, 4 in year 11homework 1 hour a week
Maths - 4 hours a week year 10, 3 in year 11homework 1 hour a week
Science double award - 5 hours a week not a lot of homework, mainly revision
GCSE subjects - 3 hours a week one year, 2 hours the other. Homework depends and varies a lot! A lot of revision at end
BTECs - same as a GCSE For curriculum but a million times more homework.

Thanks for this, I now need to work out by how much I can cut this time down if it's 1-1 learning. :)

triple sciences here -12 hrs/fortnight plus homework (approx 1.5hrs) in year 10; 14 hrs/fortnight plus homework (up to about 2 hrs) in y11.

5 hours a fortnight per subject.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 18/07/2012 00:25

Triple science - 5 hours per week
English 3 hours per week
Maths 3 hours per week
2 options - 3 hours a week each
other 2 options - 2 hours a week each

plus

PE 2 hrs, BPE 1 hr, PD 1 hr

Not state school, but each week DS studied -

Triple Science - 6 hours
English - 3 hours
Maths - 3 hours
MFL - 2.5 hours
Latin - 2.5 hours
History/Geography - 2.5 hours each

On top of that they also have a couple of subjects of homework a night, but wasn't always the same amount. There wasn't more homework for the core subjects, in fact DS didn't get any maths homework for the last couple of terms of year 11 as they had completed the course early.

When tutoring, I find I can usually do an hour lessons worth of stuff in about 30 minutes. Depending on the tpic, I can sometimes do a week (3 lessons) worth of stuff in one hour.

Obviously it depends on the student and how quick they puck stuff up etc.
