Did your yr 10 dc do AQA Maths unit 2 today?

If so did they find it hard?

Dd finds maths difficult, she worked REALLY hard over half term and did every past paper available. She is so disheartened as this paper seemed to throw up stuff she hadn't seen before.

Would love to hear that it WAS hard and the grade boundaries will be very low!

my ds yr 10 did edexcel maths B1 (statistics and probablity calculator test) today, so sorry cant help you as was different paper - He did all past papers for this paper over half term as well however its a fairly new exam so there was only 3 he could do :(
He is predicted a B and looking at the grade boundaries for the past papers he did at home he was getting a B, which i am happy with. However he was not as he said he wanted an A*. He was getting quite down about it and said it didnt seem to matter how much revision he was doing it wasnt getting his grade up. Although today he said he thinks he might have done better as it was all stuff he had revised and there was only 1 question he really got stuck on as he didnt understand what they were asking but apparently all the kids he spoke to couldnt understand it either.
He is currently revising biology for papers B1a and B1b ready for friday and then that is it all done untill yr 11 :)
Think i might buy him a new game for his xbox for when he comes home friday as a treat as he has put the work in, he even went into school last thursday as they were doing a revision afternoon for maths for kids who were struggling. He wasnt one that they had asked to go in for it but he volunteered to go in anyway.

Are there any AQA maths teachers out there who may have a view?

Was this a new spec? So past papers for previous years won't have been much use? Dd was in tears after the exam, she worked so hard over half-term, she got a C in her "mock" but was getting consistent A's in the past papers.

I feel so sorry for her, I really thought doing well today would give her a confidence boost.

my Y10 DD did it yesterday, and said they all found it very hard and that it was all stuff they didnt know.

she has maths lesson today so hoping to get some feedback from teacher as to whether it really was difficult.

she would only have been a borderline C anyway, so we're just viewing it as practice really!

not really much to report soda, she says the teacher said "the paper was all things we havent studied". dont quite know why that should be the case, but am guessing it will all become clear in the mists of time...

oh well, tomorrow and next week to go and then that's it for this year!

Glad I found this thread - DD1 did this yesterday - slogged her guts out over half term and was really upset at how hard it was - she is an A* student normally and thinks she has failed.

Sorry your dds thought it was tough too (am I allowed to be secretly relieved mine wasn't the only one).

I will e-mail her teacher tomorrow and ask for his comments, am a bit shocked by your dd's teacher's reaction boschy!! I will let you know what he says.

well I think it is quite a relief that they all found it hard really. havent caught up with the teacher myself yet, so not sure how reliable DDs response was! but I will update if/when I hear anything.

Maths is my DS's best subject, and he found it hard! Not sure which board he's doing, but probably the same one, as it was non-calculator. He said they all found it really hard!

Had an e-mail response from dd's teacher, he says paper was quite hard, but not as hard as their "mock" paper (March 2012 paper).
He thinks grade boundaries will be 17 (C), 27 (B), 38 (A).
Dd seems to think she will be lucky to get 10/66!!
Methinks resist may be happening.
