Hi. Does anyone have a DS at this school and if so can you tell me about it? DS is in year 5 at present and I am considering whether or not we should put him forward for the 11+ for Bishop Wordworth's. I know of a few families in my area whose boys go there, but it seems a really long way to me. We are in between Winchester and Whitchurch.

DS is very bright, on the gifted and talented register, and works with the Year 6s for literacy and numeracy (and is bored at school).

How far away do boys go to this school from and is it worth a long journey to/from school every day. Our comp alternative is Testbourne (OFSTEd rating: outstanding).

Thanks in advance

what did you decide? We may be in the same situation soon. Also where do you live? We may be reloacting to Whitchurch or Overton for testbourne.
thanks

Odd job- you need to carefully check the stats and entrance criteria.

I only know something of the Girls' GS intake (the 2 schools have different funding arrangements so I don't know if this alters their admissions criteria)- but I know of a DD who lives 20 miles from the Girls' GS, who passed the 11+ but who wasn't offered a place for this coming Sept.

Tansie currently both of these schools are in the catchment for this school and are quite near, so dont think it will be a problem. Hope not!

I know the girls' GS doesn't have a catchment as such. They cite 'reasonable travelling distance'. I don't know about the boys'. But that's why someone 20 miles away from SWGS didn't get offered a place. But I also know of girls who had an hour and half's drive twice a day to get to SWGS a while ago!

sorry, I got confused (easily done!) I was talking about testbourne and Overton / Whitchurch.

This year Testbourne is being offered to pupils living in Andover who may have put it as 2nd or 3rd choice to the Winchester schools (Westgate and Kings) but are unable to get into either of those due to over subscription.

I have heard that this has meant that children living slightly further away from Testbourne in the Basingstoke direction are not being offered places.

Do be mindful of this if getting into Testbourne is one of your criteria for your house location.
