My daughter is currently in Year 3, one of the oldest girls in her class being an October baby.

I was looking at secondary education and 11+ exams, but (and I am sorry if this sounds stupid) really don`t know when she actually sits these.

I assumed it would be 2014 - September - when she just is in Year 6. Altough another mum @ her school says that she would need to take this in Year 5 as she would need to start her secondary school in September 2014 ? I am soooooo confused ... Confused

Hopefully someone can clarify this for me?

Lilly.

Hi Lilly

I'm not sure where you are based, but here in Essex my ds will be taking the 11+ this September 2012 when he has just started Year 6 and if successful will go to the grammar the following September 2013.

My ds is a September baby so also oldest in the Class. Primary asked us to consider him taking the exam a year early, which the grammar will allow in exceptional circumstances, but we decided to leave him with his peer group and let him enjoy childhood for just a little while longer!

Work backwards: if she started year 3 this academic year (Sept 2011), she'll begin grammar in year 7 in Sept 2015.

Admissions are done the previous academic year, so you can expect 11+ exams to be in the first term of year6, autumn 2014.

Ds is in yr 3. I know of school friends' parents who reserved their 11+ tutor when they were in yr 2 and even by then some were booked up.
