Emanuel, Wandsworth - SEN provision?

Does anyone have dc at Emanuel with any form of SEN, particularly high functioning Asperger's? Was rather appalled by attitude of Head when we went round the other day to Statements in general. DC not Statemented, is G&T but is Asperger's so ... quirky... so if anyone does have a child there with ASD/Asperger's have they any support or was my gut feeling that they just don't want 'that sort of child' at Emanuel correct?

I visited the school a couple of years ago and finally located the SEN dept and discussed my son's Irlens Syndrome. The SENCO didn't appear to heard of the condition and insisted my son was dyslexic which can be a related condition but isn't the same thing? I left with the distinct feeling that the school wouldn't be the right environment for my son and that their SEN provision was just something they were obliged to offer?

I do know a couple of children who attend the school who love it, but they are both academic and sporty types?

In the near vacinity, Lambeth Academy has absolutely first class SEN provision in a mainstream school.

Have you considered Centre Academy in Battersea? I know a very high functioning Asperger's child there and the parents are very happy with it. I think the fees are around the £25k mark though, I don't know if they do bursaries.

We wouldn't get Lambeth Academy - we are waay out of catchment and the wrong side of the river to boot and the journey would be an absolute mare from us I think. Our local Academy has good provision and is within walking distance so ds can go off there and that's all absolutely fine but I'd been interested in Emanuel for various reasons, not least because I know people with kids there and they are really pleased with it and its bursaries were on the good side but their kids are straight down the line with no 'issues'. Oh well, rather like Alan Sugar and his apprentice, 'the search continues...'.

Boarding isn't an option - though there are times when it's definitely a temptation
