Hi - after years of dreaming I have just landed a job in South Devon and we're now planning a move for the family. I was after advice from anyone on secondary schools in Totnes, Brixham, Kingsbridge areas for our 11 yr old to join Yr 7 from September. Also any advice on primaries in the same areas for the other two would be great ! We're not looking at selective so forget the grammars I'm afraid. Also - are theses good areas to bring up young kids ? Thanks - any advice will be much appreciated

the local one in Totnes looks OK
the vast bulk of pupils will go to their catchment school round there

Thanks TP2 - we can be open on where we live so finding the right school will be the main driver

It's not great. An awful lot of people round there either go independent or to the grammars.

Good areas to bring up kids. Totnes always strikes me as fairly hippy dippy; Kingsbridge has an outstanding community college (according to the website).

Totnes is known to be a bit hippy (ie the town) but it is a lovely place. If you want to look at other places, Ivybridge Community College (about 10 miles away) is outstanding (OFSTED), and has a good reputation, and is great at sport and drama too. it has a huge catchment area so you do not necessarily have to live in Ivybridge itself . Our primary school aged son goes to Ugborough Primary (he joined mid way through year 5) and is very happy there. Good pastorally as well as academically. worth phoning ICC and finding out how far out the catchment goes.

I have a friend with two DS at Kevics ,Totnes .

They've not had a great experience ,especially regarding dyslexia .

Have heard better things about Kingsbridge .

Thanks for all the replies - definitely drawn to Kingsbridge as I've heard a few good things recently - will be going down in a couple of weeks so we'll schedule some visits I think
