What do you make of this?

DS 16 first year at the very excellent sixth form got his mocks results today
Maths B
Physics B
Chemistry A
Predicted grades for all of the above are A's so I am concerned/confused, according to DS he was mark, and two marks respectively of the A's, found it hard and he is disappointed.
Is it still possible to achieve his predicted A's in the real exams at the end of academic year?, Worth mentioning he did well back in December in his real/previous year Physics exam he got A.
Parents and teachers, please! TIA

confused as to why he has got mock results now as the results from the 'real module exams' are due out on 8th March.

In any case, normally the expectation is that students should gain a grade on their mock results as they learn from them as to the exact content, how to answer them etc

Letter today from DS's school, it appears he is working way below of what is expected of him at the moment:
Physics D
Maths B
Chemistry C
This to me looks like a huge discrepancy between his mock results stated in my OP and his teacher assessment.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
What does it all mean?
Apart from fact that he is a lazy git.
No module exams in his his sixth form, only real exams at the end of academic year, study leave commence on the 18th of May.

Well I presume that his mock results were only on a small part of the syllabus and although he has done well on the first terms work he hasn't continued to do as well over the year as a whole.

Teacher assessed grades at this point often err on the low side to try and scare DCs into revision. I would just take the grades as a snap shot of where he is at this moment and if he wants to get his A's he needs to get revising.

His instructions for revision from now on are:
six hours a day, broken into three with two hour break in between.
I don't know if he has it in him

Past papers are best for Maths (there are masses on the exam board websites) and revision guides for chemistry and physics, DD2 found the CGP ones good. There is still hope!

I agree with webwiz - they are probably just being conservative on the marks they give out, to ensure students don't become complacent about work and revision in the run up to the real exams. Ask your son to find out the specific areas that let him down and give more time to those. He'll be fine!

Yes, webwiz, last night we printed out edexcel AS Maths, OCR Physics and OCR Chemistry past free exam papers, it looks helpful, he is pressing on today with work, I think it downed on him, What is at stake?, so fingers crossed.

Sounds like he needs a kick up the . I remember many years ago being predicted a B for Maths following a mock which to be honest I's done very little work for .... nothing like a low grade to make you pull your socks up . Thats probably all it is don't suppose the original predictions were way off target .

Well few days after, DS is warming the chair, putting four to five hours in, and it seems to be getting in grips with it.
Tutor for maths had given him two practice papers C1 and C2, he completed it with no problem with couple of very minor mistakes in the workout, maths tutor mentioned in conversation, she did not understand Why such low grade in teacher assessment? and that she sees him doing very if he continues revising in this way.
So it is possible that school is using such scary tactics to push DC's into more revising, but I can't help but feel with some students this can have adverse result and demoralise completely.
