Ginormous backpacks- anyone found a good one?

DS1's school backpack is falling apart, it wasn't a particularly good one anyway but also it is constantly jammed to the hilt with stuff.

They have so much to take in, added to that he has guitar twice a week, 2 different and big gym kit bags, cooking stuff each week, and he travels on the school bus so it would be great to be able to get more into his regular bag.

One of his friends has a great rucksack (animal I think) which has 2 deep pockets and then a zip off section big enough to contain his gym stuff. His Mum found it in TKMaxx and they aren't available any more.

All the ones I've been looking at only have one deep pocket, and then a flat one on the back, maybe some small side pockets. The great big tall hiking ones are no good, it needs to be deep rather tha tall iyswim?

Anyone found anything like this?

Try looking on the 'javari' website - there's a really good choice there. (I got the Eastpak batter backpack a couple of months ago - it's very deep and it's got a 30 year guarantees - it seems very well made so far!)

The animal ones are available to order online. They aren't as expensive as I imagined they would be.

Dakine ones are pretty big. Expensive too, but they do last. DS1 has one that's been used every day for a year, for carrying what feels like a hundredweight of bricks around, and it looks as good as new. Mind you it was designed with a filthy and mudsplashed print.

They are also very cool, at least at DSs' school.

Try the surfdome website, they have hundreds of backpacks and actually have the measurements.

Measurements are great. Thanks all, I will check those out.
