Secondary Schools in Bexley - Anyone got any experience??

Hello there. I'm moving from Pembrokeshire to Bexley in Kent later this year with my 11 year old son. I've arranged a place for him in a local Junior School for the last 6 weeks or so of this term, but he's moving up to Secondary school in September and I've got to decide which one. I've been told by the Council that as kids in Wales don't take the 11+ exam, he will now have missed the opportunity to get into grammar school. I've also been told that as applications have already been processed, it's unlikely I'll be able to get him into an oversubscribed school in the area. I was hoping to come down in a couple of weeks to visit some schools but I really don't know where to start. Does anyone on here know anything about schools secondary in the Bexley area, and which ones I should aim for or avoid! Many thanks x

I think it's Cleeve Park Maureen. I know 2 x happy, 1 x not happy with that one!

Marina, I looked at Dartford for DS and one of the things that I liked best about it was the HT's views on the affordability of uniform.

I don't know much about schools outside the borough but I'm not sure I would agree that children in any school in Bexley will do well. There is a huge difference between the grammars and the rest, not just in exam results but teaching, homework etc - DS seems to learn little at school and gets next to no homework. His friends at Chis & Sid/Beths get more a day than he does in a week. I can't see how the standard of education he is getting can in any way be compared to theirs, and I do find this a real worry.

Yes DS goes to Cleeve Park. In pastoral sense I have no issue with the school, there are no problems with bullying, level of discipline seems ok, it's the academic side I'm not so happy with.

No, not every child, but those that have good grounding at home, will be OK.

DD is at a comp, nephew is at a grammar. Both in the same school year. They are both doing the same amount of GCSE's and are both expected to get roughly the same grades.

I don't think you need worry too much though. It sounds like you have his best interests at heart and he won't slip through the net. Smile
