My son wants to move.

My son wants to move secondary school.
He feels weird being one out of 10 Asians out of the whole school. A majority of the people are Bengali and a few English and others. He feels he can't make friends in his school as he is different and people are racist towards him. He is midway through his secondary school also he is in Year 7. I just can't help but think we should move him to a more diverse secondary school where his old friends were. Apparently he just roams around the school with people looking at him.

Mikimum · 10/02/2011 22:21

Yes, he feels different from the majority of the people.

does he do any extracurricular activities. These are a good way of feeling part of the school community,
eg choir, orchestra, sports etc. Theres alot going on.
Speak to his form teacher to get an idea of how he gets on with his class?

He does music in trombone (which he did in his old school). He really doesn't want me to ask his teacher as he doesn't want more people to be involved. He is starting to hate school more and more and is even telling me he wants to go to Sir John Cass.

He is talented and gets bored in class (he was listed as gifted and talented which meant he could be bored in classes). Which makes him even more eager to move schools. He is also really quiet in class, doesn't like a lot of attention and speaks really quietly (which is why he can't make many friends as they think he is rude). He wanted to move schools to keep in contact with the people in his primary school too.

Poor little soul. I am pale and part asian - but I was the ONLY foreign person in my school. I used to get all sorts of taunts and stupidity.

I think the gifted and talented element makes it even more important that you move him.....I can't actually see any reasons why to stay.....

Good luck, He sounds like a lovely gentleman of a boy. I am sorry that people can be so stupid.

'He feels weird being one out of 10 Asians out of the whole school. A majority of the people are Bengali'

Not sure how I understand this - is he eastern asian rather than southern asian?

He is half Vietnamese and Chinese, he has some classmates but he feels he can't get any closer to them.
