What are your Year 7s doing all summer?

Just wondered what yours are getting up to? DD hasnt got much planned and I'll have to work 4 days a week most weeks.. I'm hoping DD's mates are around but they are sure to be away some weeks. It's a long holiday too , 7 weeks this year. Have other more organised people got structured activities etc sorted?

Where are you? Ours is short this year. 5 weeks 2 days.

Do you have any kids camps' running at your locals leisure centre/schools. They usually cater for quite an age range and aren't too expensive. Might be good for a week if his friends are on holiday and you're working.

If you aren't able to gt away could he go and stay with relatives for a few days?

Has he mentioned what he fancies doing?

Hi mumtobeautiful, there are some kids camps I think but dd hates sport of any kind! I've sorted a trip to some relatives, but that's only a week. Am starting to panic a bit now!!

16-26.08 doing the stage school workshop (not ver yexpensive, £120, as she is the member of theit choir)
the rest I have no idea what as need to spend some time with ds as his 11+ are in Sept

most likely a couple of day trips a week, some to the seaside, others to see friends

he's been off for 2 weeks and in that time has seen two friends and played a lot of xbox

thankfully he still has training for his sport to go to which gives him some structure

He told me he didn't want me to organise anything and would 'sort it' - hah!

I've cracked now and am phoning his friends' parents and researching courses ....

DD is doin a week volunteering at an integrated play scheme, not much else planned yet.

Ours don't break up until 22nd but I'm already muttering about the x box.
It's only allowed within limits normally but they will push it as far as they can.

When they were younger I used to organise lots of activities in the summer from bike rides and pic nics to days out. Once DS1 reached 13 he refused to be organised and said he would make his own arrangements. Unfortunately he seldom got round to doing much besides a few cinema trips.

DS seems quite busy. Has been off for two weeks - his bro not off till the end of this week. Has got some sort of lego (?) looking robot he can make , break remake, program etc, linking to PC.He has been doing errnads for me, bits of shopping etc, goes for a run every day, piano practice, cycles about, reads, watches TV, planting grass seed, trimming hedge, making sandwiches for out lunch ...Quite useful having him around actually.... (I work from home but have to go out to meeting etc so he is not alone all the time. Most of his friends are away alreaady, taking advantage of cheaper July hols.)

DD has gymnastics for 3-4 hours most week days, which she loves. It cuts down what else she can do though, and is an hour round trip at the beginning and end for me too.

My future year 7 and year 9 DDs have already had nearly 3 weeks, and another 6 to go...

Fortunately we will have had a total of 5 weeks away from home during this time, less if they go on residential PGL-type holidays (finances permitting), or I would be going mad trying to get my work done whilst keeping the peace...
