My son is 15 and really struggling at school, he has minimal support in place (dyslexic, dyscalculia and slow processing skills) but he's still sitting nat5s which he is really struggling with mainly the level of content and not understanding the exam papers and what's being asked of him. Can we ask the school to do nat4 level with a view to maybe nat5 in 5th year? More and more I feel the curriculum just isn't fit for purpose for children with ASN 😔 thanks for any guidance x

You definitely can do, so that he has more time to hone his skills. Another alternative is to do functional skills exams instead which are more practical (so much more dyslexia friendly!). They do maths and english functional skills level 2 exams at various centres across the country. If he has an idea of what he'd like to do after Nat5s it's worth checking if they accept functional skills as an alternative to Nat5- if they do then it's definitely worth looking into!
