Where can I move to?

I currently live in Edinburgh. I have one adult child in Edinburgh and another in Glasgow. I am desperate to move away from Edinburgh. It's unfriendly, cold and overcrowded. I don't like the house I live in. Ideally I would like to move down South for better weather, but that doesn't make much sense from a family perspective.

Im looking for a small town or village with a friendly community feel, good shops and facilities and great walks within a couple of hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh. I've looked at the Borders and Aberfeldy, Dunkeld , Pitlochry etc but nothing seems to quite fit the bill.
Anyone got any ideas?

We moved to Broughty Ferry in recent years and bought a house not far from the Castle and sea front in the very heart of things. There are lots of independent shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs; lots of organised activities, and opportunities for walks and enjoying the outdoors. It’s about an hour and 20 to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
We feel somewhat protected from the worst of the Scottish weather due to our geographical location in the Tay Estuary, we are officially the sunniest place in Scotland and one of the driest urban areas.

Linlithgow? It might not be as small as you'd like but it is nice.

Come to the Kingdom of Fife - lots of lovely villages especially along the coast. I am in Dunfermline which is great. 25 mins on the train to Edinburgh and 1 hours drive to Glasgow if the traffic isnt too bad.

I just don't feel very enthused by Peebles. Not sure why.

I'll check that out. Never been there.

The Tay Coast but across the water. Newport is lovely. Great little high street. It Tayport. Cheaper and has a beach!

East Lothian has its own microclimate and some nice coastal towns like Dunbar and north Berwick and lots of little villages.
