has anyone successfully managed to get out of being a witness at sheriff court by calling the PF and advising of ill health. I know the legalities and need a doctors certificate etc. want to know if anyone has done this before. I know failure to turn up is a contempt of court potentially I want to get out of it properly without recrimination

thanks

you won't get a medical certificate for ill health unless you're unconscious and in ITU or really seriously ill. No GP will do this on the advice of our defence unions as we can get called to court to tell the judge why we signed you off and in reality there's very little they will accept. We got asked to do these from time to time as GPs ...the only one I did was for someone who was unconscious in ITU.

I would contact the PF to arrange reasonable adjustments.

Thanks I am going to do that

You’ll have to contact the PF and ask them. I worked for them years ago and sometimes witnesses would be countermanded. For the love of god though just don’t not turn up as you’re likely to have a warrant issued for your arrest.

Thank you @Genghai will be notifying them

What did they say?

I have only been called as a witness once, it was a cheque fraud case (and that tells you how long ago it was), I was excused because I was just one of 20 witnesses agreeing that yes it was my signature to say i;d accepted the cheque, yes I was working in Wm Low on the date given and yes I must have served the man in the dock but have zero recollection of that. I was sitting exams at uni when the trial was going on and was excused but it was like the day before so very last minute.
