Common Riding June 24th - 26th (27th if it’s early)

I am meeting American friends in Scotland between these dates (they arrive in Edinburgh on the evening of the 23rd) and thought they might enjoy seeing a Common Riding.

is anyone aware of one that happens on one of these dates, please?

I no longer live in Scotland, and am finding it harder to get info on this than I’d hoped. I have looked online, but I know there are more than I can find there.

Thank you!

Please report back! All my family from that neck of the woods are gone bow and I miss it!

I will, if we make it there.

The Saturday event is a better bet if you want to see the horses on a few different parts of the route. If your guests don't mind a walk they can catch them crossing the river, galloping up Gala Hill and then along Scott Street, which are three of the main places people gather to watch. There are short ceremonies that take place on different parts of the route and the brass and pipe bands join at various points too. It's finished by lunchtime so evrryone can devote the rest of the day to boozing you should be able to catch a fair bit of it even if you have to leave early. The Torwoodlee Rideout takes place more out of town and then joins the fancy dress parade through the town.

Thank you, that’s really helpful.
