Recommendations for places for lunch near Edinburgh

I’m looking for somewhere lovely for a birthday lunch near Edinburgh. Not keen to go somewhere in town . Looking for a lovely country pub or bistro type place . Fife or East Lothian perhaps . I want to be in a countryside setting. I don’t want stodgy stuff or generic pub food but also don’t want tiny portions with silly overpriced ingredients.

The Kinneuchar Inn ticks all your boxes. It’s in the East Neuk so could be up to 90 mins drive from Edinburgh though.

Thanks will have a look at these. Loch Leven Larder is pretty terrible though. Very very limited uninspired and overpriced menu. Which is a shame.

Ah you didn’t say it was last minute!

The Wee Restaurant, recommended by a PP is a good shout.

I've been looking at The Wee Restaurant because my DD wants to go there for her birthday.

You need to be aware that it is a set menu which varies dailyso best to phone up in advance to see what they are serving and alsobook a table.

The larder is excellent for food. Local produce much of which they grow. Shame you’ve not had a good experience but I’ve never had a bad meal there or cake.

Where did you go OP?

I went to Walnut in the end in Edinburgh. Some of the suggestions here were closed today.
