Bloody "Energy advisers"

Is anyone else plagued by phone calls from "Hi I'm Jo/John - one of your local energy advisers"

I get these almost daily. Yesterday it was at 8.30am and this morning we've already had 2 of them. It sounds like a recorded message but with quite a human sound. I've tried saying "Stop phoning me" and "Go away" to no avail. There's no number left and it's on my landline so I can't block it.

Just wondring if anyone else gets this and how to stop it.

Don’t get that one
do get “add me to WhatsApp to discuss a job opportunity “ quite often

telephone preference service
and contact your land land provider

RaraRachael · 11/10/2025 12:54

I've tried my provider but as there's no number they said there's nothing they can do

Ask them to block calls that don’t have a number - that surely is free

Paddington5 · 11/10/2025 13:02

We have an ansaphone and I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognise- they’ll phone back if it’s important

I nearly always get 'Chris.' (The 'Energy Advisor.') When I look the number up online, some people are saying it's an automated message. I wonder if it is too, because I started responding in French, and said 'I have no idea who you are or why you are calling me' - (in French,) and 'Chris' just carried on talking - over me. I just hung up.

I can't really do that as calls from our hospital come up as withheld.

@Zov I've tried everything Ican think of - OH has shouted F off down the phone
I've told them to go away
I've ignored them

What really annoys me is the regularity of them. It's almost daily

I get them. I either hang up or tell them I got new windows, doors, boiler, solar panels and insulation this year. That sometimes makes them say they will take me off their list.

childofthe607080s · 11/10/2025 13:37

Just answer the phone and then leave it off the hook for a while

the only other alternative is a number change which is a real hassle

RaraRachael · 11/10/2025 13:52

@OldJohn I'm not talking to a real person though. This morning I interrupted and said "Stop phoning me" then "Go away" but the voice just continued.

As pp suggested the Telephone Preference Service.

RaraRachael · 11/10/2025 14:43

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll look into the TPS but does it work if you can't provide a number?

I get calls from “sky”.
it’s not sky.

All these bloody call centres in India trying to extort money in one way or another.

I got a BT call minder phone for my landline and that helps with calls on that but I still get the “sky” calls on my mobile as they change their displayed number continually so I can never block them.

Yes because it doesn’t let you block specific numbers, it removes you from the list that these people are allowed to spam. It takes 10 minutes to sign up for it, if that.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/10/2025 15:30

I KEEP getting 'job offers'! I can't not answer because work calls come from various phones, but as soon as I hear the recorded message start I do the 'report and block' function on my mobile.

I'm about to retire, FGS! They'd only have to look at my age (on LinkedIn) to realise they are barking up the wrong tree with their 'fabulous new job' scams.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/10/2025 15:38

The TPS is the phone equivalent of stopping junk mail through the post. Once you are on it the company can be fined if they call you without permission, so if a person calls you just say you are on the telephone preference service and they'll slam the phone down on you so quickly you'll feel a draught. A computerised one tends to get blocked quite quickly at source but the odd one will slip through if they change their number but most don't, after a week it'll get blocked again.

If you aren't on TPS then you have to tell them "take me off your calling list" otherwise they will assume you don't want the call right now instead of never (yeah yeah I know, but that's how they get away with it).

RaraRachael · 14/10/2025 11:17

Thank all. I've registered both my mobile and landline with the TPS so hopefully that's the last I hear from these pests.
