Kids at Scotland matches

Would you take an almost 11 year old to a Scotland match at Hampden? Would be him and his dad only. His dad isn’t a big football fan and never goes to games. They’d be travelling into glasgow from around 30mins outside on train then to hampden (train?)

Would appreciate any advice from anyone that’s been to recent matches re safety, best sections to sit in, any issues going to/from stadium, etc etc. His dad (we are divorced but friendly) thinks he’ll be okay but I’m a bit worried about the crowds/drunkenness etc.

Arrive early and leave 5 minutes before the final whistle and they’ll be fine.

My son of a similar age has been before with his dad. Scotland /international games are usually quite jolly and they’ve enjoyed them.
DP says east stand usually where families go, also high up in the south stand is often a more sensible crowd.
Just be prepared for a long wait/walk afterwards, he heads to a further-away train station due to waits to enter the nearest station.

It wouldn't occur to me that they are anything but completely safe. My kids have always loved going. I'm trying to think how young they were when we first took them.

They will be totally fine.

AmyDuPlantier · 08/09/2025 22:55

Of course, it’s very safe!

Yes it'll be fine. Been to Hampden many times and it is always a good atmosphere.

My husband and older son have been to quite a few from when my son was about 8 and been fine. Sat in different sections depending on where they could get tickets. They usually park in a residential street nearby and walk.

I’ve not been but my loads of my son’s teammates from football have been (he’s 9). Never heard of any issues - a couple of them have been mascots which was fun to see on telly.

Ca55andraMortmain · 10/09/2025 06:58

Yeah it'll be fine! DD has been going to games with her grandad since she was 6 and has never had any trouble at all.

I take my 11 year old to the football (stadium with 74,000 people in) quite often. We go early to enjoy the build up, he has a good sing song with all the other fans and we never ever leave before the final whistle. He will be fine.

EBoo80 · 10/09/2025 16:36

Agree - totally fine. International matches at Hampden have a real family atmosphere. Is your husband generally nervous about crowds? It will be busy but totally safe.

Took my son aged about 11 to a Scotland game at Hamden and he saw nothing at all as all the adults in front stood for the entire game. Never bothered again.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 18/09/2025 23:17

Yes absolutely.

the only games I’d avoid are Old Firm matches.

TryOnATeaCosy · 18/09/2025 23:24

There’ll be no bother at the Scotland games. Don’t tell them to leave early, that’s when all the most exciting goals are scored!
