Ayr Festival of Flight - hints and tips

We are planning a trip to the airshow this weekend and I was hoping for some advice from locals, or folks who have been before:

  • Should we park (at the Racecourse probably) or get the train in? I really really don't want to get stuck in a carpark before a good 1.5 hours drive home. The alternative would be to park in Kilmarnock and catch the train in from there.
  • Should we take camping chairs?
  • Should we take a picnic?
  • What sort of time should we aim to arrive?
  • Where's a good spot to base ourselves?
Any other hints and tips? TIA!

Be prepared for it to be extremely busy!
Take anything you aren’t comfortable carrying - chairs, blanket picnic etc.
Toilrts were an issue last year, so leave plenty of time to walk to and queue if you have little children.
Trains get very busy, but the roads get gridlocked. Be prepared to hang around a lot. Parking in Prestwick or Troon then getting a bus in may be easier, but the buses are trapped in the traffic too afterwards. It may be easier for you to watch from the beach at those places because you see almost as much and it isn’t anywhere near as busy.

Thank you so much. You've actually reiterated what someone else said to me. We might just base ourselves in Troon.
