Best GP for Napier university students?

I’m helping DD sort out a GP for when she starts at Napier next month. She will be in the Bainfield flats. She’s going to need to sort it quite quickly when she moves in. She has searched the NHS site for GPs and there’s loads of them that seem to be in the area. The uni website doesn’t give any advice on which practices cover the area.

I was just wondering if there is anyone on here who has experience/DC has experience of GPs around Bainfield and which ones are best?

I attended Napier and there was an opportunity to register for GP as part of freshers week - the uni can definitely help with a list of where is accepting new students but personally have used Gilmore Medical which is very close to her and they’ve always been good. It’s part of Tollcross medical centre which has another practice operating from it too.

@toddlertired that’s very helpful. Thank you. We might have to wait until until she gets there. I’m very conscious that there can be a postcode lottery for GPs.

stick your postcode in here and it gives you the practices within your area. You might still need to check she's within their catchment area though. Is there not a uni medical practice?

No uni medical practice as far as I’m aware. We’ve tried searching and looking on individual practices, but they have these huge maps on their websites that is really difficult to work out if it’s covers the Bainfield area.

Why is it hard to tell if Bainfield is in their area?

Ineedcoffeenow · 15/08/2025 16:29

Because they seem to cover a large area so the maps they have don’t go as detailed as having street names on them plus I don’t know Edinburgh at all. I might try google maps.

But if you look where it is on Google maps can you not work it out on the GP plan?
