Moving into a new house and switching broadband providers- do I have to wait for exchanging of the missives to arrange for installation?

Hi all,

Question's in the title, we're moving at the end of July, I was getting ready to sort for broadband to be installed at the new address (switching providers) but then saw some advice against setting anything up until the contracts have been signed. Not sure why. Anyone got experience/advice?

You have to wait until you’ve moved in surely??? If I had a buyer wanting to let the broadband installer in to do some drilling prior to the person actually paying the purchase price into my bank account I’d tell
them to get lost.

It's pretty obvious that they don't want you signing up to install broadband at a house you might not end up owning should the sale fall through.
Agree with PP, I waited until I had moved in to sort things like that.

Sorry I just realised my post wasn't clear! I would just arrange the installation, to take place after the move date. So no drilling until we had moved in.

We arranged once missives were signed, OP. Obviously no installation till after move-in date! But once missives are signed then you’ve got your dates set so you can arrange. In the unlikely event it falls through (in Scotland this is v unlikely as missives are legally binding) you can just cancel anyway.

Not sure if it is different between Scotland and England, but I did this with our house move. Booked the installation date about a week before we were moving in, but we had exchanged contracts but that point.

I had mine done all switched over on moving day. I told Sky I was moving and they booked it in for moving day. I had until something like 4pm the day before to reschedule. By the time I was at the stage of setting up my tv it was all done. They sent the new router to my old address

They have a department who deal with moving house I expect whoever youre with will be the same and will guide you

Same as pp we booked ours with sky for the day after we moved in, if anything went wrong it would have been easy to change the date. We booked around 2/3 weeks before the move

I once arranged my internet/TV prior to completing so it could be ready asap, it was all fine but my router was sent to the new place and I felt a bit awkward. I can’t remember if I’d done the missives or not though.
