Staycation tips from Glasgow with toddler & baby: down south or up north?

We are based in Glasgow and would like to go on a week staycation in an Airbnb end of July. DH and I can’t decide whether to go down south, lake district area, or travel up north in Scotland. We will have a 2 year old and a 2 month old with us, oh, and a doggo! Happy to prioritise the toddler’s interests so I am thinking there may be more activities down at the Lakes? Beatrix potter museum etc? Thanks

Not exactly what you asked for but i feel i must pass on Auchenlarie holiday resort Dumfries way is lovely for a staycation. Caravans or lodges with hot tubs in sit3 ( for the adults once the kids are down)and beautiful beaches all around for the kiddos as well as the Deer cafe, cocobean experience . The 2 years we've been, we've been so lucky with the weather so made the most of the beaches and countryside
