2025 SQA Exams

With SQA exams starting tomorrow, is it time for a general exam thread?

It's just DD for me, doing Nat 5s. My first 'anxious parent for formal exams' experience. Starts with Music on Monday and ends with Art & Design on 26th, so we've exams throughout. Study leave not started here so first exam is on first day of study leave. She's over revision already so going to be a long 5 weeks.

Yes, DD did remember when I told her what it was, but just didn't recognise it in the exam itself. When she first said it, I thought it was in the Civil Rights topic, because the term franchise relating to voting is used there.

On to the new week, good luck for tomorrow to those taking H and AH Maths, Practical Electronics and Sociology. 🍀🤞

Hope she didn't get confused @CleaningSilverCandlesticks. Am only getting texts from DD because she's on the school bus, but seems Nat 5 was ok. No white terror but a 6-marker on extension of the franchise which stumped them all.

This also stumped DD. I think she wrote about the wrong topic here. 🙈🙈

Higher maths . DC said it went “ok “ but there was a “weird “ qu that he couldn’t really answer .Doesn't know how many marks it counted for .

Hope other DC fared better with their exams today x

Eagerly awaiting news of Higher Maths from DS - hardest subject for him, but only subject specific needed for uni. I’ve got everything crossed that it went ok for him.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/05/2025 13:54

DS thought AH maths was pretty hard. Would be interested in other kids views.

Another vote for hard here too, mine has no idea how it has gone at all

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 12/05/2025 14:02

Still waiting to hear on AH maths.

DrivingandInsurance · 12/05/2025 14:11

DS thought Higher Maths went ‘okay’ one question really tricky and another one took a while but overall he’s reasonably happy.
1 left, Human Biology in just over 2 weeks.

RausageSoul · 12/05/2025 15:26

Well done to the higher maths dc!

With maths, physics and apps back to back studying is proving quite a juggle, but she enjoyed filing and tidying away all the completed subjects.

Newbeginningsandhappy · 12/05/2025 16:19

I was told Higher maths was tricky too. Fingers crossed.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/05/2025 20:20

DS thought Higher Maths was ‘ok’. One question he thinks he did badly on, but he thinks he made a good stab at the others. Whether his answers were right or not we’ll find out in August!

YouBelongWithMe · 12/05/2025 23:12

My son said P1 of Maths was "phenomenal" and P2 was "worse but still okay".

He also said there was a Q near the end of the paper, he's referring to it as "the circles Q" and agreed it was v difficult.

He's pretty self-aware and is quietly confident he got an A. He only needs a B, so fingers crossed.

AH Physics on Thurs for him.

And DD15 has Maths on Wed morning and Music Tech on Wed afternoon :/

Issy422 · 12/05/2025 23:29

Seems a mixed bag on today's maths. I hope those for whom it didn't go well have done better than they think.

Good luck for those doing Accounting, Media and, Design and Manufacture tomorrow. 🍀🤞

As I suspected, DD has focused almost entirely on D&M and done barely any maths revision. Going to be a busy evening tomorrow night.

Yes the ‘circle question’ in Higher Maths was the one my DC found very tricky, as did most of their friends! Overall they found it all ‘OK’. We’re hoping for at least a C as they’ve already got an Unconditional place at Uni but just wanted to secure Higher Maths in S6 as they only got a C at Nat 5. We’re aware that some Post-Graduate courses need you to have a B at Nat 5, so we thought a C at Higher would be an equivalent to this.

Nothing for 2 whole weeks now until AH Biology.

Good luck to your DD today @Issy422 and everyone else with exams. Seems to have been little Maths revision here despite having no other exams this week, so I expect it'll be a last minute panic today.

Thank you @LaughingLemur . DD is now in full delusion and denial about maths, claiming she'll be fine because she got over 70% in the prelim. That was Apps. Her two maths prelims have been 41% and 53%. Contrarily, she's panicking so much, she can't even remember how to add and multiply negatives. She's gone into school for maths masterclass this morning, but she'll have to miss the last hour to get lunch and read through her D&M notes.

Oh that sounds tough @Issy422 having a Maths masterclass before an exam. Good that she's gone to it. My DD has stayed at home as her friends weren't going to the one at her school so I'm trying to help her now. Good that it's my day off after working the weekend but I should've been more prepared like you. I think I've got the hang of these trig identities at least.

Issy422 · 13/05/2025 10:11

Shout if you need any help, but just about to start work, so might not answer for a few hours. The marking scheme is helpful though. DD did a past paper before going to sleep last night, which I've just marked. Lost 3 marks for incorrectly adding/multiplying negative numbers and 4 for completing the square, which came up twice, so two easy fixes for tonight. Didn't attempt the last two questions which is another 8 marks. So going over four topics would change a fail to an A. 🤞 she'll listen tonight, but she'll be tired after masterclass and exam. Not done any paper 2 yet, but it's paper 1 that usually lets her down.

LaughingLemur · 13/05/2025 10:17

Thank you @Issy422 for the lovely offer. At the moment she's doing a past paper with one laptop and I have the marking scheme up on mine which seems to be working. My DD is the opposite from yours, she seems to speed through paper 1 and come unstuck on paper 2, so we're concentrating on paper 2. Your DD will be exhausted after her masterclass plus exam. At least by tomorrow afternoon Maths will be over then lots of stress will disappear.

cazzyg · 13/05/2025 10:28

DC has media today. So nervous as this is the one that is causing concern due to some gaps in the teaching. It's been a stressful 48 hours are more gaps were uncovered and we've tried our best to help.

summerscomingsoon · 13/05/2025 10:42

very stressful 48 hours coming up here. Nat 5 maths tomorrow and physics thursday. he's gone in for revision class but was not in a good place last evening

We have the same @summerscomingsoon but also engineering on Friday. Maths revision now done and three last papers completed so doing a bit for physics and engineering today. Roll on Friday as that’s us finished.
