Edinburgh job requiring 2 nights accommodation each week

Hello, I am trying to work out my options for somewhere to rest my head when I am working in an Edinburgh office two days each week.

Hotels fluctuate so much that they are totally unaffordable across the summer.

Studio flats are pushing £1000

Even looking at spareroom dot com it seems about 600+per month for the most basic spare room. I’m not too fussy, but I do want to feel safe and ideally have an en-suite bathroom for reasons to do with needing to pee in the middle of the night!!!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere a station or two outside Edinburgh that has a travelodge or cheap hotel that mightn’t have the same price variations? Or other suggestions would be most welcome.

There's a premier inn a short walk from Camelon station. The Edinburgh-Glasgow train stops there.

Stirling has a Travelodge and Premier inn

i would try posting on local buy and sell sites asking for en-suite room for two nights a week at £50 a nite. There might be people who wouldn’t be up for a full time lodger but would take someone two nights a week and be £400 a month better off.

I’m just outside Edinburgh and it’s still full of tourists and expensive over summer.
You’ll probably need to look at further afield like Fife, Bathgate, Falkirk to get reasonably priced accommodation over the summer.
In august tourists even have to stay in Glasgow and commute through to visit Edinburgh

I have sent you a PM OP @mumsandaunties

The short-term licensing thing means it's not that easy for people to just rent their spare room a couple of nights a week. Short-term lets in Edinburgh – The City of Edinburgh Council
The Edinburgh effect seems to spread far and wide now, particularly in August. Prices go up well beyond the city boundary.

Somewhere on the Queen St/Waverley line, you’ll find cheaper accommodation in W Lothian or N Lanarkshire

Dunfermline has a travel lodge, travel in. And holiday inn express and good rail links

MiddleAgedDread · 04/04/2025 16:24

Dunfermline Travelodge and Premier Inn aren't that handy for the station.

Yes, I need to think about the dead of winter..not just the long summer nights - so I am ideally looking for somewhere that is super close to public transport - even if that is a 45 minute journey

Falkirk (Larbert) Premier Inn is 0.7 miles (10 minute walk) from Larbert train station. Larbert to Edinburgh Waverley takes 40 minutes.

^ This. We are based near the Royal Infirmary/ KB of the University and used to rent our double ensuite spare room out to visiting students/consultants/researchers predominantly on a M-F basis. We met some really interesting people. Not any more.

Which side of town is your office based?

Have sent a pm. Can potentially help

The station hotel in Larbert is 30 seconds from the station. It does nice food and even has single rooms I think, lots of NHS staff would stay there as near to hospital.
