Short term rental with 6 dogs in SW Scotland

Are we realistic to consider selling our house in Wiltshire and renting in Dumfries and Galloway while we house hunt? We have 6 dogs. Do you think we would find somewhere that would rent to us?

That's a lot of dogs. You could try looking on https://www.letswithpets.org.uk/find-a-pet-friendly-property/find-a-pet-friendly-property though I think it'll be harder to find somewhere that accepts that many pets. It's also worth knowing that tenancy agreements in Scotland are open-ended rather than fixed term, so you don't need to say you're only planning to rent short term.

I doubt it.

I’m in Scotland. Although there’s plenty of affordable houses to buy, there’s a shortage of rental properties. It’s a competitive market, so landlords can take their pick. You’d be lucky if you can find one willing to allow any pets, never mind six dogs!

That's awful advice. 6 dogs? How will the OP possibly lie about having 6 dogs!

I think you’d find it difficult. Where about in Scotland are you looking? I feel you’d want somewhere in the country with that many dogs and those properties are tremendously popular

The short answer is The longer answer is probably different if you have a huge budget or are super flexible with where you live.

Thanks for the replies. We are looking to relocate to rural Dumfries and Galloway so just want a temporary rental while we find a house to buy. We don't need a luxury rental (obviously), even a scruffy one bed would do plus an enclosed outdoor space (ideally) and somewhere to park. Are places like that out there?

You would be better off looking at what's available now to get a feel for the local market - contact the local agents direct - I suspect not a lot - partly because there isn't a lot of property in D&G

We stayed here a few years ago. Dog friendly with several dogs allowed (if I remember correctly).

I think the venn diagram of places that can house 6 dogs that hasn't been turned into a holiday let, will be pretty small. You might be better off getting an off season deal for a holiday let.

I’d find the local community Facebook pages for places that you might like to live and post on them. There may be a farmer has a workers cottage or someone has a second home and doesn’t want to rent it out properly but will to the desperate or someone is in a care home and it’s not really up to a rentable standard type stuff.

There’s also often an advert in local community magazine or pinned to a notice board of someone on the hunt for accommodation. I’d say that you don’t mind if it’s rundown and that to you are looking to buy locally.
