Opinions on at Augustine's - Edinburgh

My DS is set to go to St Cuthbert primary next year, and while we've had very good opinions on this school from parents and teachers, we really don't know much about the catchment secondary he would have to go to as a result (st Augustine's). I know their ranking regarding the exam results is not the best, but as a former teacher myself I'm on the belief that if a child is academic and is supported at home and by caring teachers, the results will come regardless... So I'm more interested in the school ethos, wether teachers are invested, the values of the community, the environment in general, what sort of friends he might have... Things like that.

Does anyone know the school and could give me any insight?

Thank you very much in advance

You’ve got 7 and a half years until he moves to secondary school, they can change an awful lot in that time!!

I’m so sad to see it has plummeted down the ratings. I went there myself in the early 90s. Even then, it definitely had its issues and seemed to have quite a high proportion of pupils who had been expelled from other schools (a bit like the school of last resort..they would take anyone - Christian values perhaps). It has such a wide catchment that you got the full range of social and economic backgrounds which I think can have advantages…you are certainly not in a privileged bubble.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but I would like to get a sense of how things are at the moment to make an informed decision with the information I currently have... Obviously if the circumstances chance I would act accordingly near the time
