Unfortunately due to the weather forecast, this year's hogmanay celebrations have been cancelled.
The concert in the Prince's Street gardens are off too.

It's barely even raining in my corner of Edinburgh so far. And hardly windy. I guess it's all about to change and be pretty miserable for all that to be cancelled.

Dh and I were planning Hogmanay at home with a lovely bottle of brandy. Looks like we'll now be joined by ds19 and his pals who were planning to be at the street party. Ds18 is still planning a bonfire on the beach. He's hardy.

Maybe we should clear out the garage and stick some fairy lights and beer in there for them.

Slightly upset about the lack of fireworks but at least I might get an earlier night now 😂

Maybe it'll blow up overnight but it's mild and no wind here. I'm a 5 minute walk from Princes Street.

I think the wind is the main issue. It's to pick up again overnight and through tomorrow, according to the forecast.

It was absolutely from the early hours of the morning until early afternoon and it’s forecast to do the same
again all day tomorrow. They’ve said it’s the set up that’s been affected as much as the forecast during the event.
the torchlight procession was cancelled last night too due to the high winds.

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 31/12/2024 00:24

Yes, I read that it was because they hadn’t been able to do the set up for the event. The stage and all the barriers. So it’s the wind we’ve already had that’s caused the cancellation, more than the forecast for tomorrow.

I feel bad for nephews who were going to go to town - not for the street party (no tickets) but for pubs etc. I’m guessing everything will be mobbed now with people who would otherwise have been in the gardens?
