Will you help me plan a trip to Aberdeen (Albyn hospital)

I live in Dundee and have an appointment at the Albyn hospital in Aberdeen on Wednesday for 9.30 am. I cannot miss this appointment so I’m planning on being there for 8.30. So what time would you leave to make it there with plenty of time to spare? I’m thinking to leave dundee at 6.30 or 7. I don’t know how bad the morning traffic is like in Aberdeen?

if anyone has suggestions for parking, that would be great, too.

The morning traffic in Aberdeen is absolutely horrendous so definitely take that into consideration

I would leave at 6.30/6.45. I would anticipate the journey taking 1hr 30 to 1hr 40 with morning traffic and then leaving yourself plenty of time to find a parking space.

according to Google maps (dependent on whereabouts in Dundee) you could leave at ~7.20am to arrive by 9am. (it suggests between 1hr.10 - 1hr.40min travel)

route

eta; there are only 27 parking spaces on site.

There is an ok sized car park at albyn and lots of on street parking too.

I would also leave about 6:45 but I think that is playing it safe. There's a couple of nice cafes near albyn if you do get there super early.

If your car is non-compliant just be aware that albyn isn't too far from the ULEZ zone - just in case your satnav takes you through the zone accidentally.

Good luck with your appointment 👍🏼

You'd be incredibly lucky to get a space in their carpark! There is on street parking available (needs paying via an app) so allow a bit of extra time to park and possibly walk a bit in case you can't find one on the same street

Thank you. I think we’ll leave at 6.30. I think 3 hours should do it? I have a blue parking badge so hoping that will help with the parking. DH is driving so if it comes to it, he can drop me off at the hospital and go find somewhere to park.

I would get the train - its only an hour and Albyn is 15 mins walking distance then go for a nice lunch / wander.

theferry · 26/11/2024 11:38

Good suggestion, but I’m not going to be in a fit state of being able to walk/get on a train after the appointment

I would do 6:30am. Just because at the moment there have been quite a few morning accidents on the A90 and the AWPR so you never know.

Blue badge parking is quite limited - about 3 or 4 spaces - but getting there that early and I'd expect there to be one.

Best of luck.

I live close to Albyn Hospital and regularly travel to Dundee to visit family.

It takes approx 1 hour to get to the roundabout near Black Watch Memorial and I would allow another 10 minutes for morning traffic. So, no more than 90 minutes from Central Dundee.
