Halloween - non-scary costumes

I'm from Scotland, moved away when I was 24 and have been gone for 11 years now.

We're currently back visiting (two DCs, 4 and 1). The 4 year old wants to dress as Spiderman at his Halloween party tomorrow. I have the costume but I'm sitting here thinking, shouldn't he really be dressed as something scary? I guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter but from my own memories I only ever really remember kids dressing as scary stuff! The little one has a pumpkin costume...not exactly scary either but at least Halloween related 😆

What are your kids all dressing up as tomorrow?

My 6 year old has just been to a school halloween party and a lot of the younger ones are in superhero costumes. Pretty standard for that age so I think its absolutely fine.

The scary stuff tends to be more dominant but it's more about dressing up and being in disguise (probably the root of the word "guising"). I'm in my 50s and I remember dressing up as Paddington one year; I wore my school duffle coat and borrowed a hat and small case from my grandfather. My other grandfather had been a ship's captain and I remember my brother wearing it with a shirt and tie one Halloween.

My Dd and her friends have an Alice in wonderland theme.

Anything goes these days

Thanks all for the reassurance! Just back from their party and they had a blast. There were a few superheroes and an astronaut so I was worrying over nothing :D
A banana made me giggle.
